Exotic Sinker Cypress Box

This is a Sinker Louisiana Bald Cypress. An old-growth giant Yellow Bald Cypress tree found in Louisiana river beds and bayous. This specific tree was found in the Sabine River and sunk in the 1880s. The mud provides minerals and tannins to transform the yellow cypress into various hues. Because the mineral content varies from one body of water to the next, the colors and shading become one-of-a-kind works of art.

Below are axe-cut sinker ends showing the logger's stamp hammer. This marking indicates the Infiniti stamp used by southwest Louisiana loggers to identify their wood at the lumber mill down river.
